WSOP winners 2001-2007

Peter Eastgate: 2008 WSOP Winner

Peter Eastgate

Peter Eastgate has gone from somebody only his mother could pick out of a crowd to a person of intense interest. There is a fairly good reason for his suddenly popularity. As of the 2008 World Series of Poker Main Event, the young man from Denmark is the youngest player to ever win the WSOP's most prestigious event.

Annette "Annette_15" Obrestad: WSOP Europe Main Event Winner

Annette Obrestad started playing poker at an age when most girls were getting stress ulcers from waiting for the high school QB to ask them to the senior prom. The game quickly consumed her and she began to play poker with the same sort of passion that most young ladies usually reserve for shoes or chocolate. With less then a thousand days experience in the game Annette was one of the most feared multi-table tournament players in cyberspace and was also the unlikely owner of a World Series of Poker bracelet.

Jerry Yang: A Winner With a Heart

Jerry Yang: A Winner With a Heart

Nothing is better than a classic rags to riches story. Nothing is better than rooting for someone who will appreciate a big win. And nothing is better than a humble, big-hearted winner. All such things define the makings of the newly crowned WSOP champ - 2007 Main Event winner Jerry Yang.

Jamie Gold - 2006 World Series of Poker Champion

Hailing from a place known for its golden beaches, Malibu, California, is 36-year-old television producer Jamie Gold, the winner of the 2006 World Series of Poker Main Event. Born in New York City, Gold went on to become a successful Hollywood agent representing many talented actors, including one of the biggest stars of the hit HBO TV show "The Sopranos", James Gandolfini, as well as one of the co-stars of another hit show "Desperate Housewives", Felicity Huffman. Gold moved on from representing actors to running his own television studio.

Joseph Hachem: "Thank you, America!"

Joseph Hachem: "Thank you, America!"

The face of poker has changed. Once again. And it’s not an American face. It’s Lebanese-Australian. And this face DID NOT invest $40 to win N million. He just paid $10.000. And won.

Carlos Mortensen: "It's Unbelievable"

Carlos Mortensen: "It's Unbelievable"

He's got all the makings of a great matador - aggressive, quick, steady, and calm, but bull fighting isn't where he takes the bull by the horns. It's at the poker table. Charging opponents with a relentless, aggressive style, Carlos "The Matador" Mortensen was just 29 years old when he beat out 612 opponents to win $1.5 million and his first gold bracelet in the $10,000 Championship Holdem event at the 2001 World Series of Poker. In 2004, he won the Doyle Brunson North American Poker Championship earning $1 million.

Robert Varkonyi: 'We Didn't Even Know About The World Series Of Poker Then'

Robert Varkonyi

Robert Varkonyi is one of the less known WSOP winners. Before his triumph in 2002 nobody knew his name. He had never played at the WSOP before it. When being a student Robert Varkonyi like all American students played penny ante poker. He didn’t plan to make a poker career… and I’m not sure that his great win can be called a career. As Phil Hellmuth said: “This is Robert’s day, let him have 10-15 minutes to enjoy it”. I guess he enjoyed it: $2,000.000 – nobody had ever won a bigger sum. It was before Greg Raymer got his $5,000,000. So, how it was?

Greg Raymer: "So, I Reraised All In"

Greg Raymer (World Champion 2004) began to play when he was in college. It was nickel-dime poker. As you know at first Raymer played blackjack to earn some extra money without pleasure. But when he moved to Chicago he began to play Holdem. Raymer began with $3-6 games. At that moment he began to read poker books, that gave him all necessary information to move from $3-6 to $20-40 or even $150-300 games.

Moneymaker, Moneymaker… everywhere… people just can’t stop talking about this guy. I wonder why do you read it? Don’t you know everything about him as yet? If you don’t – then you’re in the right place!
