During the Black Poker Stars Invitational final episode with only two players left Orlando Jones and Miguel Nunez, the more experienced Miguel took on Jones with a supreme confidence.
At the Black Poker Stars Invitational final episode there were only three players left; Orlando Jones, Fazion Love and Miguel Nunez playing for a $50k check for charity. In this hand Love showed his amateur status clearly.
The Black Poker Stars Invitational final episode, playing at Planet Hollywood, with three players left; Orlando Jones , Fazion Love and Miguel Nunez. None of the players were that experienced at the game, with poker pro David Williams in the wings making commentary. The event was being held for charity, however, so it was all in fun.
During the Black Poker Stars Invitational final episode with three players left; Orlando Jones, Fazion Love and Miguel Nunez, a common situation cropped up, one that begs the question, “is it gentlemanly to call?”
They call Dan Harrington “Action Dan”. Dan broke a rule about poker nicknames – he gave his to himself. But at least he had a good reason for it – he was trying to trick everyone into thinking he was a loose player, when in fact few are as tight a player as Dan.
The expression “raise and take it” refers to a poker hand when no one wants to commit more than the minimum to the pot, and when one player makes a raise, everyone else folds, thus allowing the one player to “raise and take it (the pot).”
When old school players are called tight aggressive, most poker players think they understand what that means. They may not, however, really grasp just how tight a group of these players can get, as we saw when the hit NBC poker show Poker After Dark put on the Mayfair Club Reunion. The Mayfair Club is a card club from the 1930’s where many big name poker players, such as the infamous Stu Unger, cut their teeth and learned the ropes. In this game it was Jay Hemowitz, Howard “the Professor” Lederer, Mickey Appleman, Dan Harrington, Steve Zolotow and Mike Schickman, and after a dozen poker hands they had seen exactly one flop and no turns.
The way they film the hit NBC poker show Poker After Dark is interesting. They bring in six poker pros, each of whom pays $20k to play for a winner take all prize, and they film every hand. The don’t broadcast it all at once, however, breaking it up into five segments they call “days”, and everyone plays along like its Monday, Tuesday, etc.
When the hit NBC poker show Poker After Dark thought to hold a Mayfair Club Reunion week, they may have bitten off more than they could chew. It wasn’t that there would be so much action that the cameras couldn’t capture it all – just the opposite, in fact. With Jay Hemowitz, Howard “the Professor” Lederer, Mickey Appleman, Dan Harrington, Steve Zolotow and Mike Schickman, Poker After Dark was about to launch their slowest, tightest game ever.
